Arc 25 - Regrets - Page 99
April 17, 2020

I'd like to tell you a story about an orthopedic oncologist (bone tumor surgeon) I worked with. Amazing doc. His skills helped if not cured a ton of people. To others he offered many reconstructive options when the bone tumors resulted in removal of entire joints or segments of bones.

But...well, there's a stereotype of surgeons for a reason.

I remember working with him in clinic one day and there was this crying woman he was seeing for the first time. The woman thought she had cancer. It was obvious to this doctor she did NOT have cancer. He never said those words out loud. As gets up to leave, mildly annoyed the woman had been referred to his clinic for obvious osteoporosis, the woman sobs, "Am I dying??"

The doc responds, "We are all dying, just at different rates." He pats her leg and walks out.

The end.

(I walked back in and let her know she had osteoporosis).
