And the updates continue! I don't really have much new to say on this page, so I'll just copy Wednesday's post.
And it begins! Thanks to my computer meltdown this past Monday, I haven't been able to solidify my buffer, but luckily I have a lot of sketched pages completed. You can find those previews in the forum for this comic, located here. I also went back and added a quickie "cover" to this story arc, you can find that 2 pages ago. It's very difficult to find though--you have to press "previous..." twice.
For those of you just tuning in here, What it Takes is by me, Kez. I'm a grad student of interdisciplinary biology (specializing in immunology) at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY. I am [not?] a "professional" artist, which to me means: I do not hold a degree in art, but it IS however how I pay my bills. Anyone who takes issues with my story presentation can kiss my freakin' ass. That said, I do very much appreciate comments on the pages, which you can leave by clicking the "comment" link below each strip. After you do that, you can go check out my other works, which are linked above this news area in the little boxes. All three are QUITE different than this one here, and are part of the same universe.
Q: Will this comic ever be in color?
A: Rarely. Like Not Alone, a completed comic of mine, this comic will mostly be monotone. It's not gray, by the way. It's brown.
Q: How long will this story be?
A: As long as it needs to be. It's not an epic like The War of Winds, but it's not a short story like Not Alone or From Earth to Heaven. I'd say it will last about 2 years.
Q: Previously you said this comic would update M/W/F. When is that going to happen?
A: As soon as I have the spare time to make enough of a buffer. As a grad student, my schedule is somewhat...packed. I need to get a better handle on what I'm doing in lab first so I can better schedule my time. My responsibilities to my education and my PI come first. Can't mess this up, folks. Unlike undergrad, you screw up one class and you don't have years to make up the average.
Q: Is Colbey based on you?
A: Colbey is that displeased voice in the back of my head that becomes enraged by every so-called "strong female lead" in movies and TV shows today. I became so sickened by "strong" being synonymous with "slut," "divorced," "alcoholic," etc, that I decided to make what I consider to be a woman I'd look up to. Colbey is a grumpy smart-alec, but dammit, she's a "she," written by a "she," drawn by a "she," can't do backflips, but CAN kick ass. So, yes and no, if that answers your question. A character is always a piece of the writer, but no, she is not a self-insertion.
In closing, unlike my other stories that max out at Web-14/PG-13, this comic will contain swearing, blood, gore, violent death, more swearing, and female nudity. If you can't take that kind of stuff, this comic is not for you. Any comics that may be considered NSFW will be marked as such so you'll have to scroll down to read it.
